Automatics for the People

During the 1960’s, prior to the revolution of quartz technology, timepieces operated through a mechanical watch movement. Two types of mechanical watches exist: the manual hand-wind and the automatic wind.

Recently Timex launched the critically-acclaimed and commercially-successful hand-wind Marlin and now is following that up with an automatic Marlin. A timely take on the original, the new automatic Marlin maintains the classic look of the hand-wind, but in a 40mm size.

Unlike hand-wind watches that need to be wound each day, an automatic, if worn daily, is automatically wound by the movement of the wearer. This movement will drive the weighed rotor to move, which winds the watch automatically.

The mechanical watch movement is driven by a spring (called a mainspring) which must be wound periodically. The release of the energy held in the mainspring is transmitted through a series of gears to power the balance wheel, a weighted wheel which oscillates back and forth at a constant rate.

Often referred to as being ‘Analog in a Digital World’, automatic watches have a special place among watch enthusiasts who prefer the craftsmanship and artistry when compared to more common quartz watch movement.

Currently, the Marlin automatic is the only automatic watch made by Timex and pairs stainless steel, domed crystal and mechanical movements with the timeless sophistication of a sleek mid-century design. We’ve carefully selected every single detail to create a watch that takes a licking but keeps on ticking.

Crystalized

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then crystals are her muse. The Timex and Swarovski® partnership has been delivering whimsical and beautiful crystal adorned Timex® watches and the tradition continues with select pieces from the women’s line.

Recently Timex launched a crystal renaissance with a subtle touch to the Weekender® Fairfield collection. This timepiece produced just the right touch of glamour with an elegant row of Swarovski® crystals on the watch strap.

Crystals continued to integrate with Timex watches when the Miami featured a dazzling circle of Swarovski® crystals around the bezel.

Timex and Swarovski® then upped the ante in terms of crystal watch embellishment and brought out two collections that allowed for creative crystal design.

The Crystal Bloom collection saw the watch dials introduced to crystals as flower patterns blossomed throughout a series of leather and bracelet strap timepieces. By telling a floral story on the petals with carefully sprinkled crystals, Timex created beautiful women’s watches and then expanded the designs to include entire dial fabric styles that offered some glitz but in a subtle manner.

In the Fall of 2018, Timex and Swarovski® continued a shared passion for innovation and the Crystal Opulence collection emerged. Bolder yet still elegant, the Opulence line features expertly crafted timepieces with creative displays of shimmering crystals.

Two styles feature dials textured and showered with Swarovski® crystals. One has a smart corral of crystals on the perimeter of the dial to create a sophisticated look that is available with a gold-tone case or black case. And the other is pure opulence with either a blue or black dial layered with a glittering fabric of crystals for a penultimate statement piece.

Express your elegance with select timepieces from the Timex Crystal Collection.

Going Back to Cali

The state of California is an ever-changing and transcendent landscape. Many styles come and go in the land of sun and fun, but for many, it was the halcyon heydays of the 70s and 80s that typify California style. Beaches, surfing, board shorts and vibrant colors were all part of the fashion trend that made everyone pine for a little of the Cali lifestyle.

Timex brings back the classic era with a modern version of the military-inspired MK1 California, vibrant and colorful timepieces available only on Timex.com.

The watch is based on the simple design of the MK1 Aluminum, but with a wave of color that makes each style stand out. Pink, yellow, orange and blue abound on these fabric strap watches that feature a domed acrylic crystal tinted in the different shades that swim from the case and onto the strap.

The MK California collection has all the reliability of our classic MK1 with the addition of colorful crystals and added comfort of a lightweight aluminum case and double-layer slip-thru strap. Other features include a 40mm case, 24-hour time markings, Indiglo® backlight and water-resistant up to 30 meters.

From the beach to the boardwalk or any occasion that could use a splash of color, the MK1 California is a perfect choice for making a stylish and colorful statement.

Wound Around the Marlin

During the 1960s, Timex scored a hit with the hand-wound Marlin® watch. Sensing the time was right for a reissue, Timex launched a highly successful update to the original in 2017 with a classic hand-wound mechanical movement.

Now, as demand for the Marlin continues, Timex is proud to partner with Mr. Porter and Todd Snyder in offering three new hand-wound Marlin styles with exclusive new color palettes and, for the first time ever, a design specifically made for women.

Hand-wind (also called manual wind) watches must be wound daily to prevent the movement from stopping. This is perfect for Marlin owners who most likely will make strapping on their Marlin a part of their morning routine. Simply wind the watch until you feel resistance on the crown. This should be repeated every day to prevent the watch from stopping.

Referred to as the Gentlemen’s Standard, the Timex Marlin pairs the purity and pleasure of a hand-wound mechanical movement with the timeless sophistication of a sleek design. The only hand-wound timepiece available by Timex, the Marlin has earned commercial and critical success and a new audience of watch enthusiasts who adore the reissue of a true mechanical watch.

Featuring a stainless-steel case, genuine leather strap or mesh band, 34mm case size, 18mm lug width and water-resistant up to 30 meters, the Marlin is a contemporary take on a timeless classic.

The three new Marlin hand-wound timepieces include: a stainless-steel case with a domed acrylic crystal and lizard pattern leather strap in black with gold-tone finish; a women’s version with white leather strap and rose gold-tone finish; and an all stainless-steel version with a mesh band.

The popularity of the Marlin has allowed Timex to offer two styles to exclusive men’s fashion sites, Toddsnyder.com (stainless-steel mesh band) and Mrporter.com (lizard pattern leather strap in black with gold-tone finish).

Elegant, classic and expertly crafted, the Timex hand-wound Marlins are a must for any watch enthusiast or anyone looking to make a sophisticated statement with their watch.

Behind the Scenes with Alivia Latimer

When Timex planned its “Summer Nights” social photography series on Timex Instagram, finding a photographer that could feature the Timex INDIGLO® backlight and capture the essence of summer moments, Timex gravitated towards Portland native and social influencer Alivia Latimer (@alivialatimer). The campaign featured the Fairfield Crystal Leather, Weekender and Fairfield Supernova Chronograph and gave Alivia a chance to create the youthful moments of summer with a brand she admires.

“This was probably my most favorite shoot so far,” she says. ”I was given a very specific theme and purpose, so it made setting up the scene, watching it play out and capturing the moments a lot of fun. As a photographer, you’re always looking to capture those moments that will help tell a story.”

Alivia’s work has made her a sought-after social influencer – someone who can reach a wide audience and convey a message that strikes an emotional chord. Alivia began taking pictures without knowing it would be her career. Friends told her how good her photos looked and that’s when the idea of pursuing photography sank in. Soon, brands were contacting her to shoot products and when Timex came calling, she had an instant reaction.

“I remember when I saw the INDIGLO® feature for the first time and thinking how cool is was that it glowed. When they proposed, I was super excited. Incorporating that lighting into the shoot was a great addition.”

While shooting Timex watches for the shoot, Alivia became fond of one in particular.

“I definitely like the Weekender,” she says. “It’s light, versatile and has a couple of different bands to choose from. It’s also very easy to work with when shooting.”

“This campaign was very exciting to me,” she says. I got a lot of feedback from friends who asked how I got involved with Timex, how impressed they were with the watches and how much they appreciated the different style, straps and colors.”

Even before the project began, Alivia felt a real connection with Timex.

“When I think of Timex, I think of classic, timeless and minimalist style as well as a nod to nostalgia,” she says. “This is a brand that will know where I’m coming from and what I want to create.”

The Story of the MK1

TIMEX has a long history of producing military-inspired timepieces, but the most iconic style was the Mil-Spec W-46374B. This watch was manufactured for a very short period of time (two months, February and March, 1982) to standards that destined it to be a true throw-away watch. The case back on the original style could not be taken off to change the battery or make repairs and the simple movement and lightweight body made it truly disposable. Issued to the US Marines in 1982, this was the very beginning of the MK1 story.

In 2016, TIMEX re-released the original 1982 MK1™ using a resin case with selected retailers globally. The light-weight appeal remains but the watch is no longer disposable and is constructed with the TIMEX stamp of quality, built to last.

In 2017, TIMEX adapts the revered MK1, using a contemporary adaptation of the iconic style, the MK1™ Aluminum stays true to TIMEX’ history of creativity and innovation. Lightweight and durable, the aluminum grade chosen for the MK1 is usually reserved for architectural applications.

For 2018 the new MK1™ Stainless Steel carries a tough look and feel. We’ve strengthened the case to bring solid performance to our military-inspired collection. The MK1 Steel delivers a strong profile to attain distinction and quality, with an acrylic domed crystal it is complemented by a premium Italian woven fabric with steel eyelets to ensure a durable fit. Also, available with chronograph features to create additional functionality.

The Allure of the Timex Addison

Inspired by elegance, crafted with passion and designed for women who appreciate style, the Timex Addison is a classic timepiece and perfect for formal and casual occasions. Featuring clean lines, contrast stitching and a distinctive rectangular case, the Addison is a statement accessory that doesn’t clamor for the spotlight but gets it anyway.

Available in brown, tan and black leather, the watch strap is defined by its double wrap leather strap design that speaks to a savvy sophistication. A unique take on a classic look, the trend for multiple-bracelet watch design has kept its allure.

The Timex Addison stays relevant with a variety of case colors including rose gold-tone, silver-tone and gold-tone to match with other jewelry and accessories.

A timepiece for all seasons, the Addison brings smart and affordable style using Timex craftsmanship and the spot-on double wrap leather strap.

Timex is Ready for Some Football

It used to be that Sunday was for football. But, with games on Monday and Thursday nights, the draft, the combine and its own TV channel, NFL Network, professional football is now a year-round spectacle. At Timex, we understand the passion and emotion real fans have for their team and that this connection doesn’t end after the Super Bowl. These commitments to teams are for life and we have an exclusive NFL Tribute™ Collection for the die-hard football fan.

An essential part of fan gear that will complete anyone’s gameday uniform, or everyday wear, the Timex Tribute™ Collection features all 32 NFL teams in a variety of men’s, women’s and kids’ styles. The Tribute timepieces feature your favorite team’s logo and colors and can be worn at the game, at home, or any occasion where you want to show off your team pride.

We’ll leave predictions to the experts, but as the 2018 season gets ready to kick-off, here are some storylines we’ll be watching.

Can the Eagles Repeat: Last year’s run that ended with a win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII was a season that Philly fans won’t soon forget. Now, can the Eagles soar even higher and grab another ring?

Are the Patriots Still a Favorite: Penciling in New England for AFC Champions has been routine since 2001. Since then, the Patriots have appeared in 7 Super Bowls. The Patriots always find a way to win. Can the Patriots continue to reign?

Will the Rams Break Through: The NFC is an open race this year. Several teams have legitimate shots at the Super Bowl. With one of the best defenses, a dominant run game, and up-and-coming quarterback, the Los Angeles Rams may be a party-crasher come January.

Will the Cowboys Bounce Back: 2016 was a break-out year for the young Cowboys. 2017 was a humbling setback. With a healthy roster and talent across the board, this may be the year Dallas lives up to their pre-season billing.

Way out West: Plenty of intrigue in the NFC and AFC West divisions. The Chiefs look playoff ready, the 49’ers appear on the verge of a serious run, the Chargers play their second season in Los Angeles and the Raiders will try to stay focused before their move to Las Vegas in 2020.

Those are just a few of the headlines to keep an eye on. With 17 weeks of NFL football about to kick off on Thursday, September 6, be on time for every game with a selection from the Timex NFL Tribute™ Collection.
